TRON Foundation announced via its Twitter handle that BitTorrent garnered more than 120 million votes under 24 hours to become a Super Representative (SR) of the network.

BitTorrent has a part to play in TRON’s decentralization

In a bid to build the world’s largest decentralized ecosystem, CEO of the TRON Foundation, Justin Sun acquired distributed technologies giant BitTorrent, which, has now been elected a Super Representative of the network.

With the announcement, Joe Joyce, Director of Engineering at BitTorrent, took to Twitter to express excitement for the company’s growing involvement in Tron. He wrote:

“I want to thank the TRON voting community for electing BitTorrent as a super representative. Everyone here is really excited about being an SR, and we really look forward to working with the other SRs to ensure the future of a decentralized internet.”

Joyce has stated that his team which was responsible for creating BitTorrent on desktops and mobiles would work with TRON Foundation and other Representatives in building a decentralized TRON network.

BitTorrent, owner and operator of the popular torrent client µTorrent, reportedly has more than 100 million active users and runs up to 40 percent of the world’s internet traffic daily is now under TRON Foundation.

Future of TRON – BitTorrent merger

Joyce states that before the influence of TRON on BitTorrent, the company has been working towards a decentralized internet since 2001, which is the same drive as the TRON network.

Joyce views the BitTorrent and TRON collaboration as a “merging of great technologies” because Tron has the same vision and mission as BitTorrent.

According to Joyce, the next major step for the collaboration is to start building a platform that will enable distributed applications for systems.

Duties of the Super Representatives

Super Representatives of the TRON Network have been given important roles to play as the network aims to become fully decentralized in the future.

One of which is acting as a key node on the TRON blockchain. A TRON SR is capable of validating transactions, creating new blocks and competing for block rewards on the network.

Along the acting as a key node, TRON SRs would also take care of the updates on the network. They can also approve the security and transaction modules of the network.

At press time, TRONScan reports that only 18 out of the 27 proposed Super Representatives of the network have been elected.
