Crypto Analytics Firm Coin Metrics Acquires Indexing Firm Bletchley Indexes
Crypto analytics firm Coin Metrics has acquired digital asset indexing firm Bletchley Indexes, the analytics company announced via a blog post on Friday, June 7.
According to Coin Metrics, the acquisition is part of its wider plans towards the launch of cryptocurrency smart beta indexes.
The firm noted that the newly acquired platform will now be rebranded and will be known as Coin Metrics Bletchley Indexes (CMBI).
As per Coin Metrics, the new CMBI will be re-launched to “leverage Coin Metrics’ on-chain and market data expertise” in a move that will expand the indexes currently on offer.
The new indicators incorporate smart beta indexes that will be “based on key network metrics.”
Additionally, the company will re-launch all current indexes on the Bletchley platform using the network and market data on the Coin Metrics platform.
The firm has also revealed that the first CMBI indexes will be weighted on market capitalization. They will cover a number of top crypto assets, with inclusion based on several criteria.
According to Investopedia, smart beta investing is a strategy that combines both passive and active investing plans, with the aim of obtaining alpha, lower risk. It is also a strategy that is aimed at increasing diversification but at a cost that is markedly lower than that of traditional active management.
Coin Metrics reported in May that it had discovered a number of discrepancies in relation to the escrow system reporting of blockchain payments company Ripple
Nasdaq, the largest stock exchange market in the world, announced that it was introducing the XRP Liquid Index (XRRLX). The exchange noted that the index would be available to its data service across the world.
