The Houston Rockets have signed a sponsorship agreement with leading cryptocurrency mining company Antpool for the upcoming 2018/2019 NBA season.

Bitmain-Owned Bitcoin Mining Aggregator Antpool To Sponsor Houston RocketsHouston Rockets ahead of others

This latest development comes just weeks after Bitmain-owned Antpool announced the opening of its newly built Texas office.

While commenting on this latest development, Houston Rockets vice president John Corley stated that the NBA team has always been ahead of the others in terms of technology both on and off the court.

The power that Antpool has within the cryptocurrency community makes this partnership a very good one.

The partnership will see Antpool unveil an exhibition at the Toyota Center, the home of the Rockets, early next year.

The Rockets have a huge fan base in China, where Antpool and Bitmain are based. The team has Yao Ming to thank for this popularity –  China’s most famous basketball player has been with the Rockets for nine years.

With this latest development, Bitmain continued on its quest to expand its market in the United States. The mining firm unveiled plans to launch a mega cryptocurrency mining and data center in Rockdale, Texas.

Antpool at the moment is the fourth largest mining pool and controls around 10.9 percent of the total Bitcoin network hashrate.

Haijiao Li, the overseas operations manager at Antpool, believes that partnering with the Houston Rockets is a great way for the company to expand their operations and brand presence in the country.

He added that as the crypto market continues to grow and evolve, it is left to big companies like Antpool to begin the conversation, and lead the conversion of average consumers to adopt and understand digital currencies.

Cryptocurrency awareness on the rise

As the crypto industry continues to gain awareness, cryptocurrency companies are finding ways to incorporate other sectors. The next step for the cryptocurrency industry is adoption and crypto companies are already deploying products that would help with that.

Cryptocurrency companies such as Ripple and Stellar are already partnering with financial institutions and banks as they aim to challenge SWIFT and other payment processors.

The deal between Rockets and Antpool isn’t the first time the NBA has endorsed crypto.  Mark Cuban revealed earlier this year that his Dallas Mavericks basketball team has agreed to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment for tickets for the upcoming season.

In addition to that, Billionaire team owner Tilman Fertitta recently announced that his luxury car dealership has agreed to accept Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash as a means of payment.
